Personally, I don’t like the anxiety of someone looking at me, seeing that I took this test out of gas station or that looming feeling that you might be doing something wrong. That is the most obvious glaring red flag. If you look at any malicious software (ransomware) and compare it to Respondus, they’re the exact same things. When it can be used as spyware and it holds your device hostage until you complete what it says. And oh yeah, they had a big data leak in the past that was a lot of hours of recorded tests if I remember correctly.Įdited to add: each test session cost $20 and you had to schedule it a week or more in advance or they would apply “extra scheduling charges” that would make it cost more like $50Īnytime someone says that “respondus” is spyware, the loudest majority labels you a cheater. To top it all off they make you show some random person your government issued drivers license and not your student ID. I was able to get a completely wiped crappy laptop that I used only for those tests because I was so freaked out that my personal files and passwords could somehow be stolen. They can also remote in and control the mouse on your computer like so many scammers are known to do. Someone literally watches you take your test and can stop you at any time and demand you show them your room again. Not only does it require a web cam but it is actively monitored by some random person in a call center somewhere. If anyone ever gets a class that requires this platform then I would strongly recommend they drop the class if they can. The worst remote monitoring I ever experienced was from a company called “Proctor U”.
